Toby, That would be Bryan Cunneen. Bryan was a local Sydney driver, who was part of that famous Match Race with Sherman Cleveland at the Sydney Showground. It's been up before....but why not....never get sick of watching this. I was there this night to witness this race in person...amazing.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyYxEMbndLo Absolutely fabulous midget car racing. I doubt if we have ever seen anything to match this sort of thing ever in the UK - going right back to the historic start at Crystal Palace in 1934.

Not to detract from the quality of rhe racing in this piece of film, which is exellent, but you can watch this quality of racing quite often in GP Midget races. over the last few seasons, I have watched races where 2, sometimes 3 are virtually side by side for most of a race, and driving hard, on the limit, on a fair number of occasions. Nowadays, GP Midgets are a pleasure to watch most of the time, and I would think they are , as they allways were, still quickest of all the UK oval formulae

Hold my hands up there, know little about them, never seen them, as far as I know, they only race at one track in the UK. UK claims would not include Warneton

This is all a bit off course now. It originated with a debate on one of the USA's greatest midget men Bob 'Two Gun' Tattersall, then we found it was related to the excellent work of an Australian artist - and his drawings were of both American and Australian drivers. Now we are in debate about the fastest UK oval formula - is it GP Midgets or UK Sprint Cars? This should be a topic elsewhere surely - interesting as it is? It's certainly not a USA thread any more.

UK claims would not include Warneton This year besides Warneton in Belgium, at the moment UK Sprint Cars are scheduled to race in the UK at Arena Essex, Lydden Hill, Horndean and Coventry. More details about them can be found on www.uksprintcars.co.uk/

Looking at the UK Sprint Car venues, the only track where it would appear both race is Arena Essex. It would be nice to know what the fastest lap record by both formulas is. That would end the speculation.

For some reason, we don't have any Midget lap times for Arena, I will see what I can find......

5.9 litre V8 500 bhp in UK sprint car, 1400 cc 4 cylinder 140ish BHP in UK GP midget. I seem to remember reading that USA sprint cars were lapping half mile dirt ovals in around 14 seconds........
