The leading Belgian track at Warneton (is it the only track in Belgium?) has been featuring British sprint cars for some years. It is claimed in reports that they are very popular and on some parts of the track get up to 100mph!!! Have the GP midgets ever tried to get bookings for this track? It has at least one - maybe two - major two-day international meetings every year. Or would that be too far to go for a group of mainly Midlands-based drivers who seemingly don't like too stray too far from home!

A follow up re UK Sprint Cars in Belgium. This is on their website and mentions how the cars fare on the Warneton oval: European Qualifier April 08/09th 2012 A favourite with all drivers. First meeting of the year is a qualifying round at the 'Warneton Super Speedway, Belgium.' To be held on the Easter weekend Sunday and Monday. It is always great to see the UK Sprint Cars appear here and demonstrate just how these cars are the UK's fastest oval formula. Lapping in a record 12.6 seconds. Vital points will be earned towards the grid positions for the final held here in September. The drivers points also count towards the overall national championship at the end of the season. Will Vince O'Connor be able to score as well as he did in 2011? Pantech Autos Team will be taking two cars to this meeting with a Hire Car available to rent for the two day event. If you are serious about getting into the UK Sprint Cars, then now is the chance to put your money where your mouth is, to experience first-hand what these cars are about. For more details about the hire of this car, contact Duncan Panton Email: sidsprint69@gmail.com Or Call:0755 400 4855.

Yes, Warneton looks a good place for the GPMC to display their skills but do they have the initiative and ambition to cross the Channel?

Yes, Warneton looks a good place for the GPMC to display their skills but do they have the initiative and ambition to cross the Channel? I am sure the Toni Scheppens and Klaus Kilianski teams would back British drivers at Warneton. If UK Sprint Cars can get regular outings there them I am sure the GPM can as well. Time for them to show a pioneering spirit - or is it all too 'club only' orientated these days? Time to stop keeping the formula 'in the famil' so to speak and broaden horizons.

Comments that still need consideration - especially in regard to the 'club only' ethos that exists for midget cars in the UK. This is obvious from their own Facebook page where some time ago threads in regard to somebody placing midget car history bits-and-pieces was criticised! Perhaps the time has arrived for a mainstream promoting group - Spedeworth Motorsport for example - to grab UK midgets 'by its balls' and give their experience of how to promote the formula?
