Report from the 9 th International Vintage and Speedcar Spectacular at the Ekka, Brisbane on September 11 2010.
The biggest gathering of speedcars ever seen at a vintage show thrilled a very large attendance on a beautiful Queensland spring day yesterday.
The show continued under lights until late in the evening, with many fans pondering on the fact that this historic venue could still host speedway if the right promoter came up with the cash. For the bike fans the demonstration rides were great entertainment, former Exeter star Alan Rivett showed he could still be an asset to a British club.
We had a fantastic day with the launch of our book The Davies Park story. Winston Cartmell raised over $250, mainly with products donated by the Australian Veteran Speedway Riders assn, for the renovation Jack Arnotts gravesite at Toowong cemetery.
Visitors to our book stand included former Halifax favourite Les Bentzen, Jo Denton, Graham Tolbin, Researcher Barry Forsyth, Barry Lane, Kevin Elliott [Keith Gurtner pit crew], Steve Magro, and Ron Langdon . there were many overseas and interstate visitors.
Congratulations to the members and volunteers for a memorable day. photos to follow. Tony Webb.
