That was my guess, that it wasn't really a midget at all, but a model name - like in MG Midget. Couldn't really see it being much use on a dirt oval with that 3-wheeled configuration.

I found this short report in "Light Car" 20.7.28 p205. Sorry but I can't tell you any more about it. However I'm sure there would have been something in the Coventry papers about this event. Coventry Library are very helpfull. Derek Bridgett. Newcastle-under-Lyme Attachments:

Well well, I stand corrected - it was that sort of midget after all! I'm guessing that might have been at Lythalls Lane maybe, rather than Brandon?

Both these cars were before the name "Midget" was applied to "our" sort of cars, and both were normal products from Coventry Victor.

Good point Rod, I was overlooking the date of that Light Car piece. So it wasn't actually a Midget, but just happened to be tried out on a dirt oval.

Slightly of topic, I have seen a photo of a Bugatti being thrashed around Belle Vue in the '30s.
