CrashStdShw...rSMALLa.jpgFrom: Stephen Magro <stvmagro@ihug.com.au> Subject: Speedway colour, 1962 Date: Sunday, 14 March, 2010, 13:55 The picture featured, from famous Sydney Showground speedway in 1962, was a top story in the Sunday newspaper. A classic pic, taken close to half a century ago. One of the drivers, John Harvey, is still alive. His head can be seen directly beneath the rear wheel of an overturning race car, Len Brock the pilot. "Leadfoot's" car caught fire, with catastrophic results. Hazardous, dangerous days. In #55 Jeff Freeman has his left hand, gloveless, bumped from the steering wheel. Next to him is Andy McGavin. Then Brock, Harvey and Johnny Stewart, last man in and hauling on the brakes in an attempt to avoid the carnage. If ever there was a group of legend midget racers in Australia this is it! Foot note: speedcar photography by Larry Taylor. Colour pic thanks to Peter White. Attachments:

This is another great midget car photo and it always surprises just how the site keeps coming up with them. Another I liked was of the 1935 Offy a few weeks back and I was rather surprised there wasn't more remarks made about it because the car was a sheer delight to study.
