Reynolds's Newspaper, 2 September 1934 500 Spectators Clamour for Money Back
There was almost an uproar at London's new speedway, at Catford, last night, when about 500 spectators clamoured for the return of their admission fees. A part of the programme was to been devoted to midget car racing, but, with one exception, the drivers refused to race. The track was of a nature to which they were unaccustomed, the surface being composed of clinkers.
Spike Rhiando, captain of the Catford car team which had raced at the Crystal Palace in the afternoon, was the lone driver, and he went round in 89.2 seconds to set up a record for the track.
