No mystery John, It's Pete Smith, Dastle type 3. Taken at Eastbourne. If you have a copy of 'Living With Spede' it's the same car in this photo. The colour picture you have posted I would guess at 1970 as the photographer did shoot some Midget meetings in colour that year

Interesting comments Tim Stubbs. Slighthly off topic - does the name Brian Spicer also mean anything to you?

My father far right on the black and white picture. Welcome to the forum Tim. This picture is from the book "Living with Spede" which was published late 1971 by the promoters Spedeworth International. It contains a good article on the early days of the current Midget formula. I think the picture was taken in early 1970 - the roll cage is a clue and it cannot be 1971 as your dad raced with the Midget Auto Racing Club from then onwards - it's captioned but for ease of ref for any casual readers, the folk in the shot are: (l-r) Tony Bostock, Rod Tanswell, Pete Smith, Richard 'Daz' White and Tony Stubbs. As far as I know all have now sadly passed away although I try to keep in touch with the families via our occasional heritage newsletters.

Definitely remember the name ´Brian Spicer’ think he was one of their gang! I would have met them all at Paul Emery’s garage just off Fulham Palace Road. Looking at Dad in the photo, it would have to be around 1970 as I would have been 6 yrs old at the time, also I’m sure he always raced under number 6 after that.

Yes Brian Spicer was one of the MARC drivers. I think he raced overseas with your dad in later years? We have a page on the GP Midgets archive site with some limited information about your dad... gpmidgets.wordpress.com/1968/09/26/tony-stubbs/Please feel free to get in touch and help us to add to it.
