Wimbledon Stadium relics: forwarded message: Save Wimbledon Stadium Action Group ** GREAT NEWS **- Important Stadium Items Saved For Preservation After some extremely delicate negotiations with the current owner Galliard Homes over many weeks, we are now pleased to announce that we have been able to rescue and secure for preservation, not just one but three working turnstiles, along with a very important sign, all being some of the very last items from the stadium. The sign has already crossed the water over to Ireland to its new home with Brendan Berry at the incredible Mick The Miller Society, for the benefit of the greyhound community. One turnstile will be heading to Roger Cearns at Central Park Stadium in Sittingbourne to benefit greyhound racing and to recognise his family's important connection to Wimbledon Stadium. One will be going into storage for the benefit of the stock car community. Finally, one will be going to Jon Stevens at the excellent The Dons Den for the benefit of the speedway community. Midget car racing under Spedeworth Motorsport took place at Wimbledon Stadium in the late 1960s and early 1970a. There were also attempts by the speedway promotion in the 1950s and early 1960s. Another attempt was made by the speedway management at the start of the 1980s.
