Broken link above so... Yarmouth Independent - Saturday 24 September 1938 MIDGET CAR RACING. Interest in midget car racing between the Provinces and London, which attracted a large crowd to the Firs on Saturday, waned as the evening drew on due to the fact that generally the first car into the turn proved to be the winner. The cars were skilfully handled, however. and speeds were excellent. The Provinces led by Walter Mackereth, the Coventry captain and British champion, beat London by 37 points 34. Mackereth created a new track record as far as midgets are concerned, his time of 78.4 secs, representing speed of 44.35 m.p.h. The previous best in this sport was Fred Alexander's 83.8, recorded in an exhibition ride a year ago. Attachments:
