Has any member data on the career and background of Gene Crowley who, I think, raced both sides of WW2. He was a Skirrow driver and may have also been a promoter al Stoke in the 1938 and 1939 seasons.

Gene Crowley was a member of the Stoke team in 1938. In fact he was the captain of the team up until around mid August, when Les White became captain ot the Potters. I was told by an ex supporter that the reason he lost the job of captain was that he was "entertaining" a young lady in the car park during the interval, when in fact he should have been on the centre green with Stoke promoter Ron Hewet.
I am not quite sure about this but I believe he was the prime mover in taking the Midgets over to Paris after the war. Roy Chiswell , Frank Chiswell's son, told me that he was a regular visitor to their pub in Ely. I think he was trying to get the drivers together again. He may well have helped put on meetings before Hughes aquired all the Skirrows.
Derek.
