Before the outbreak of WW2, my uncle, who used to go racingwith my dad, insists that Belle Vue (E O Spence) was at an advanced stage of organizing a group of midget cars and drivers to race in America. It was obviously called off. Can anyone confirm this?

Somewhere but I don't know where but I have read something about a proposed trip to the USA in 1939 and its then postponement because of the outbreak of WW2 that September. The names I saw included Harry Skirrow and Walter Mackereth. Could the reference be somewhere in the history section on here written by John Hyam, who surely must have the answer?
