After a quick search through my files it looks like the action took place on Sunday August 8th 1937.
On the same day, at Coventry, Provinces were racing Lea Bridge in a league match.
As Walter and Ron were not attatched to either team they had a day off.
It appears they wanted to "spread the word" of midget car racing hence the demo at High Beech.
I don't know what meeting was taking place that day, I'm sure some of our Speedway friends would know. As far as I know this was the only time midgets appeared at High Beech, so what a great deal of luck it was that someone filmed it for us to enjoy 73 years later!!

Yes I agree with you Derek, thats the date I have in my notes. I think it was a speedway meeting that had midget match races tagged on to "test the water" for future appearances. I also have 29th August & 5th September noted as possible meeting dates but no proof they took place. I also have a note that midgets appeared at High Beech in 1938 but no dates. i'll dig around my papers to see if I can find the source of my information.

Welcome to the group John, you will find lots on here to whet your appetite. There seems to be a small number of us "descendents of the early midgeteers" on here.........
