With acknowledgments to the Grand Prix Midget Car Club site and Richard Neil ::::::::::::: 7 September 2013 - Classic racer weighed-in
We are very sad to report that a driver has sold a classic Midget racing chassis for scrap. The growth of the heritage scene in short oval racing means that with the proper advertising or use of the racing grapevine the car would certainly have found a home and most likely have been restored to its' former glory with the opportunity to display from time to time. Indeed a former owner of the said car was invited to take the car to the Goodwood festival of speed some years back.

Any chance of names? No reason why not? It's not a crime - just a rather sad and bewildering happening.

You can work out who it was from the website but I don't think it is appropriate to name and shame - the guy obviously did not think that there was any issue with what he was doing - I think also there are other classic cars for sale which have been difficult to sell so perhaps he thought that as it was uncompetitive in the current arena that it would not shift. From the club's point of view we need to learn from this - make sure that owners of heritage cars are aware of what they have and give them every chance to move them on to appropriate homes when needed. We've lost a good few Dastles overseas and whilst they still exist the club will never see them again. I've suggested setting up a register and am waiting to see how that is dealt with. Funnily enough there are two more Fireball mk4s on the market at the moment - both modified from original spec but neither of them have been snapped up after last week's news. Inevitably people ask me why I don't buy one of them - unfortunately where I live there is nowhere to keep a race car and renting space would not be financially viable given the lack of value of the cars. I suspect this won't be the last one to be scrapped.

I cannot see anything on here that leads to the sad demise of the chassis as was originally mentioned?

OK, the car concerned was NOT advertised on the GP Midget site - that's the point - the driver did not even advertise with the club. So let's not have a pop at those who are sensible enough to advertise. Those that know the formula well enough can probably work it out from the points chart - let's leave it there please.

Thanks for the comment. I felt it advisable to delete the Post I made previously.
