With threads for Dastle and Fireball I thought maybe one for the formula conversions. Pictures to come at some point but here's the starter list which is also roughly chronological...
Dave Williams (tba) Jock McClure (Formula Vee) Harold Lowe > Dave Dollin (Spartan Formula Ford) Nic Grindrod > Gary Piper (Swift Formula Renault) Skippy Olssen (Gentry Formula Ford - not raced) Steve Piggins (Van Diemen Formula Ford) Dan Pooley > Dave Bonser (Van Diemen Formula Ford)

But please - what exactly is a Formula Midget (or formula conversion)?

A racecar from a different type of race car converted or adapted to fit GPMC rules and regulations..

Sorry I should have been more specific.
In addition to one-off circuit cars being converted to midget spec the European formula evolved into "Formula Toyota" in the 90s - ie all circuit based cars - and that was one of the reasons the GP Midgets died out in mainland Europe. I did see some great racing in Toyotas at Baarlo in 1995 and ex GPM World Champion Henk Hanssen was there. Got a great photo of him and Alf Boarer together somewhere.
I need to check my records but I think Mick Miller raced a clubmans Centaur which would probably be the only front engine circuit conversion.

Although the Centaur was most photographed clubmans type car i've seen photos of at least one more - possibly a Milmore? I'll come clean and say over the years I have definitely looked at Clubmans sports racers as an easy way of building a side engined midget - mine if it ever happens will be a Vision. Looked what happened when Tony Norton built an F2 stock car out of a Mallock - Sooo quick... til they banned it!!!!

Possibly in Australia in the late 1940s?

GPMC currently boasts a car with the motor hanging out of the left side, the Cheetah, presently driven by Tom Keep, number 46.
