Forwarded message from Natlie Stubbs - the daughter of former 1969s-70s driver Tony Stubbs:::: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Hi! Myself and my mum have stumbled on the forum looking for photos of my dad's racing past. We really enjoyed looking at the thread with photos of dad (Tony Stubbs) and Pete Smith (family friend). Loved looking at the cars and seeing them on the track. I remember the Derringtons car as I was born in 1973 and spent much time with my dad growing up around cars and racing. I remember the Derringtons shop and sitting in the car sometimes or going on the transporter with it. Anyway my mum is looking out any photos she has of that era and I'll scan them. Hoping to fill in any gaps where possible. We laughed when we read this about Tony Stubbs: "He upset quite a few people but was a good driver and more importantly a PERSONALITY". That is the story of my dad's life in a nutshell He's 82 this year. Hope you don't mind me pm-ing you. Best Wishes Natalie (Stubbs)

Wasn't Tony Stubbs and the South African driver Ian Frazer Kerr founders of the National Speedway Association that wanted to race front-engine cars on dirt tracks about 30 years ago. From what I remember it never really got itself established and lasted about 18 months. I think that he also raced with Brian Spicer in another semi-midget car formula in Holland or Belgium about this time. He is best remembered as one of the top men at the start of the 1970s in the Midget Auto Racing Club group.

He was a little hot, some times. We remember him well. He gave my brother ( Alan Fretten) his first job in a garage in Sutton where Tony worked, cant remember the name. Our families knew each other well. They were great days of racing & so much fun. Dad died a few years ago But Mum is still in Wales. Tony Bostock has also died. I remember you being born, send your Mum our Love. x

Yes Tony Stubbs was a special person and yes he did upset some people especially Mick Miller another midget driver we had to split them up on several occasions. I remember Mick Miller driving over a first aiders stretcher to get to him.He was a very versatile driver driving midgets anticlockwise one race and then jumping into a mini and racing clockwise the next. He was like a father to me and I wish him and family all the best. Alan.

Forwarded message: TONY STUBBS, RIP Sent by Richard John Neil · Sad to belatedly report that Tony Stubbs passed away back in March at the age of 87. Tony was one of the original Spedeworth Midget drivers when the current formula started back in 1968. I will collate some notes and post them here in a few days. :: The action photo shows Tony Stubbs leading Pete Smith at Baarlo, Holland, in 1972.Attachments:

Hi John the photo from Holland is not Baarlo nor 1968, it's actually S'Hertogen Bosch in May 1970 Regards, Richard
