Syd Plevin was a well known figure in speedway with northern tracks from 1929 through until a few brief outings at Bradford in 1946. He was also a midget car driver in the 1930a, probably running an Elto. From what I have been told he won the Coronation Trophy at Lea Bridge in 1937 and was also a member of the Belle Vue midget car team. However, it would seem he suffered a serious eye injury either in a 1937 or 1938 and after that gave up car racing. Plevin probably came from Liverpool. I would be interested if any site member knows more about him. I think that Plevin died about 12 years ago. Thanx.

I'm sure I read years ago that Syd Plevin suffered an eye injury and lost his sight in it. However, it did not prevent him from trying an unsuccesful speedway comeback at Bradford (Odsal) in 1946. I'm not sure that he came from Liverpool and think that it may have been Ormskirk?

Ormskirk is where Syd Plevin lived, I managed to contact him many years ago, but he wouldnt talk about the Midgets. Ormskirk is not very far from Liverpool.
