When I ran the Midget Club magazine back in the 1990s I was always keen to acknowledge the top front engine runners in any race. I had already compiled a list of the points champions on the history site but these are mainly rear engine cars. I have put together a list of the known top front engine runners in each year as well now... www.ovaltrack.co.uk/gpmidgets/tome/championships/front_and_rear.htmAs you can see, although we know the overall points champions for all the years, we don't have full tables and cannot see who was the top front engine driver for some seasons.

What an intriguing list? Basically, how many GP Midget Club members run rear-engined cars and how many run front-engine cars?

On the current points chart there are 27 points scoring drivers. Six of those are front engine. A couple more front engine drivers have registered but not raced this year. One of the cars has seemingly been lost to the formula to go Hill Climbing. Very, very annoying when cars are lost to the club. I see Spedeworth are now getting into car manufacture - perhaps time for them to build a front engine Midget!
