I've always liked the Solar midgets. There are photos around of the Solar's just totally polished.....no paint . They look sensational. Here's one that's painted....

Imagine this silver Solar totally polished, as the chrome...they were dazzling...

Solar Midget After the end of WWII the Solar Aircraft Company built midget frames and bodies in an effort to diversify. Solar Aircraft was the parent company of Ryan Aircraft, and the Solar Midgets were built in the same building as the Spirit of St. Louis for Charles Lindberg. Solar Midgets are unique in the fact that the frame is made of stainless steel. This particular Solar is powered by a Ford V8-60. Period speed equipment includes and Offenhauser high compression heads, and an Edelbrock intake with dual Stromberg 81 carbs.

The only Solar midget that I can recall racing in New Zealand has been restored back to the colours it ran with Lloyd Nutt and Trevor Carnell in the early-mid sixties.
