These are Spedeworth Midgets - the GP Midget Club resulting, from the marriage of Spedeworth and MARC cars, was not until 1975. I say marriage as there was actually a party with folk appropriately attired for such an occasion at Aldershot. Pics to be posted, perhaps in a feature in my magazine soon.
Great to see these pics and some cars I must have seen racing but don't remember. Anyway - yes the Ray Perry pic sees him leading Tanswell and Boyles. Car 4 is Malcolm Brockhurst.
19 is Mick Davis - I had a lovely email from his family many years back thanking me for putting his name and a programme picture on the history website - shame I am not still in touch as they would love to see it. Mick was 3rd in the rain sodden Supernational at the same track later in the year.
Wonderful to see something from the days when there were proper press people taking pics from the centre green.
If anyone is interested in the GP Midgets history then please have a look at the section of the site devoted to it
Pete Smith was numbered 41, John Smith was numbered 4. This is from some M.A.R.C. papers that I have, but I also checked some early M.G.P.C papers that I have, and John carries the same number until 1976, Pete becomes number 14 by the same year
The picture with Ray Perry in the lead is indeed Ray followed by Rod Tanswell sporting the Fireball 3. The next one is I believe Roland Parker followed by Derek Johnson M45. The last is Rod Tanswell but I can't help with M19, Hope that helps
Any idea where I can contact photographer Robert Hope? I'd like to buy one of the photos if that's possible.
I know that Robert Hope's father (of the same name) was a leading photographer for the 'Daily Telegraph' at one time. The family lived in West Dulwich, south London. They no longer seem to be in the London area phone directory. I have no idea where son Robert is or what happened to him or his father.Perhaps newspapers in the south London area can help you. Out of interest, what photo is you are interested in and why? Just being nosey but after all these years is it's an iteresting quest on your part.
