Hi there. I' new to the group and 've been working my way through all the topics and messages and learning lots. I was interested to see a mention of Walter Mackereth possibly being a novice speedway rider - well I have to concur with Roy Chiswell and say that it wasn't Walter who rode at Barrow in the 1930s. Certainly Harry Skirrow and his brother Geoffrey did, they also rode at Whitehaven and Barrow grass track meetings too, but the bike riding Mackereth I have in my records at Barrow is a T.Mackereth of Kendal Possibly a relative, but the same T.Mackereth turns up in post war grass track meetings in the Kendal and Barrow area too. BTW Harry and Geoffrey Skirrow were very good riders too, good enough to beat Rol Stobbart and a certain teenage William Kitchen!

I have delved around a couple of speedway history sites but the general view is that Walter Mackereth DID NOT ride in any motorcycle track sport.

I am rather surprised that such a great and talented driver as Walter Mackereth was has virtually no photo coverage of him.
