Another Brandon pre-war midget badge (different version) appeared on Ebay few days ago but unfortunately someone must have contacted the seller to do a "private deal" & it was bought as a "buy it now" for £135 rather than letting it run. Very annoying when that happens especially as these days you cannot identify who the buyer was. There again the seller has lost out as I'm sure the buyer of the previous badge would have been willing to part with another £600.

Unfortunately (or otherwise!) I have been too busy with work, racing stuff and a property sale recently to look at eBay, so I missed that one Trevor. However, I totally agree with you on all counts. It is very irritating these days that you can't see who the bidders are on eBay. I often want to know who I'm going up against because, in some cases, I will not bother even putting my nose out of the trench if I can see somebody already bidding who I know from experience to have more money than sense or is completely unstoppable, take your pick. This is probably one of the reasons eBay stopped showing the bidder names under the guise of protecting people's privacy.
Similarly, people who end eBay auctions early because they've had a nice offer "off the books" are not only breaking eBay policy, they are also very annoying and, in my view, quite unethical. I've had plenty of overtures in that respect myself and never go for it, no matter how attractive the offer. So far, I have never lost out by doing this.
In the case of this Coventry badge, I'm sure you're right; the seller has paid the penalty for his impetuosity. If both the final bidders for the previous badge got involved again, the seller has likely fined himself about £500!
