I went and viewed the Euro sprinter at a classic race car dealer just outside Banbury when it came up for sale in about 2002/3. Car was basically a dirt track midget racer (although if they wanted to go that route would have been far cheaper to import complete cars from the USA rather than import the bits and build them here) and was way smaller than the Westfield midget I had at the time. Engine was out but from memory was a V6 (Buick?) - don't think you would have got a V8 in that chassis. Car was very well built but at £7500 for an unproved rolling chassis as apposed to the £4000 I paid for the Westfield with an all steel crossflow the figures just didn't add up. I'd heard it was down Barnstable way a few years back but could never trace it - would have been interested if I'd seen it on e-bay. The solar midget photo however is interesting - where did the photo come from and how long ago? I'm amazed no-one has tried importing old midgets for re-sale but as I've said on other threads most of the old cars in this country that have come up for auction in the last ten years have been exported to Europe. The cars in the backgound are hardly classics so maybe that is an old photo of the same car coming into the country - I'm not aware of any more in the UK at present, Regards, Ez

Thanks, Richard - at least the price is getting a bit more realistic but can't see too many bidders. Was nicely made though - anyone reading this fancy sponsoring my return to midgets!!! Found another photo of the Solar - if he'd had Demon Tweeks logos on it he'd have made a fortune.

These Solar midgets look good. More about when they raced and who drove them. How many were built - and by whom? The Red & White car are almost certainly the same, any idea how much it sold for? It's a pity to see a vintage midget being butchered, wing mirrors is probably the ultimate insult to a dirt car.I wonder if the new owner really got a real Solar.

That is appears to be a Solar Midget, built in the USA by the Solar Aircraft Company factory in complete and kit form. They had a stainless steel rail chassis that was prone to cracking. Heaps were built but were outdated as Frank Kurtis was building tube fromed cars by then and soon overtook the Solar sales. Usually seen withV8/60 but sometimes Offy or other motors. This matter of a mystery midget-cum-sprint car remains unresolved after several years. Does any forum colleague have an update on this mystery please?
