Hi. Are you still wanting information about the tour ? My mother Audrey Fretten was there and still has alot of the information Programs etc. ? Hi Alan (?) I've tried to message you but to no avail - I run the the (current formula) Midget history site here www.ovaltrack.co.uk/gpmidgets/tome and also send out the heritage newsletters (your mum is on the list). I would welcome any more information to share with the world on the site - you'll see it's reasonably well ordered. I don't need original material - although that's nice to see - copies are great. Hope to hear from you.

well it was 41 years ago I was out in jamacia enjoying 2 weeks helping the racers with their cars keeping them on the go .I was working on one of the cars when a local enthusiast came up to me and asked about the car I was repairing I said I had a problem as I we had not got a part to repair the car he asked what item I wanted and the said come with me got into his car and we drove around the island car factors till we found the part required to get the car back racing. now thats what I call an enthusiast . That's what I liked about midget races they all helped each other in the paddock if you had a problem but on the track a different thing great memories (anyone else on the this site also out there then ? )

It's always good to see recollections of the 1970s West Indies tour brought to light. There was a message that some photos not so far seen might be available but to date they've not been put on the forum. I can't seem to find the message in that matter but have the idea it was sent across to here by Alan Fretten? On that score, it's always nice to see Norbie (is that Norbert Dietsch?) popping up on this topic with some excellent memories. I wonder how many of the drivers who went to the West Indies are still with us - not a morbid thought - but just for a bit of historical interest for us. This West Indies tour must have been the most enterprising ever venture by British midgets - apart from the 1935-36 test match series in Australia.

No indeed, there weren't that many rear engined cars around in those days, and what there were tended to be seen more with Spedeworth (I think they were mostly Fireball Mk3's, driven by people like Frank Boyles and Keith Fransella) than the MARC. There is now no doubt in my mind that this is a purely MARC line up. I have always assumed that this pic - which looks like they are in a stadium which was really a velodrome - was taken before a practice session rather than at an actual meeting. Also, a further close study of the shot has convinced me that the car to the right of Cliff Davis is #9 John Holtham.

I'd really to hear from anyone who knew MICK AVERY, who was listed here as being on the tour.
I am in contact with Mick's old stock car friend Pete Jones from 1971-72.
I understand that after midgets and stock cars, Mick worked for Geoff Rumble at Dastle Cars. He built an F3 circuit car for Lord Hesketh, for James Hunt to drive. Later Mick may have worked for the ATS Formula 1 team, and for Colin Bennett Racing in the late 1980's.
Anyone knew Mick Avery, please post?
