There's no doubt that whoever was the originator of the Progressive 600 midgets 18 years ago was on the right lines. A pity he never succeeded. These cars looked good then and still would today. How many were built and where are they nowadays?

As they're now running stock cars etc. at Stoke aka Chesterton isn't it possible to try and find where the old Progressive cars are, get them running again, then ask Steve Rees to put on them on his programme. Or better still ask the speedway guy Dave Pavitt to give the cars races after his now low key National League speedway matches, that looks like something worthwhile trying to me. Or is the answer that its not okay to follow up because all the Progressive 600s have long been scrapped, which is all rather sad if they have been. Apart from Rod Pashley did any of the Progressive drivers try out in the present lot when the P600 midgets were ditched?

Its almost certain that all the cars have been scrapped but it would be nice to see a revival of something similar, a possible nearly UK TQ midget car formula maybe?

Great looking little cars those - shame I missed out on seeing them. Best way to start again would be track days.

I've just read in Motorsport News that Brisca F2 are to introduce stock car racing to Austria on SPEEDWAY tracks which means shale racing. What a pity we don't have any P600 cars around because they could have been a great second string at these meetings to F2. No good suggesting anything to the GPM about this venture - they only like tarmac tracks. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear - a great chance to enhance midgets in Europe and nobody around to take the opportunity offered. I bet if Dave Hughes and his Skirrow lot were around these days that things would be much different. They'd go anywhere to boost midget car racing as the dirt track-come-speedway sport it essentially is. Never mind, there's nowt we can do about it...except cry into a pint tonight!

Probably about a dozen built, we used to swap the bonnets to look like different cars going on track. The guy who built them spent about twenty grand out of his own pocket promoting them, the idea being to appear as second half attraction at Speedway venues. He had major problems with the Speedway board of control, who insisted it was written in stone that car racing cannot take place at a speedway meeting. He was unable to change that. He did, however, get one second half at a speedway meeting, only to be delayed by the promoters until the 9 o clock curfew,......they got about half a lap, and then got called off. I know of two that that are still complete, I would be surprised if there are not more, they are very small, and don't take up much space, There were parts of the original spec that would, in my opinion, need reconsidering, like they had no suspension at the rear (Solid axle, no springing.) which some of us felt would inhibit there performance, and presented certain risks...... Non of the progressive 600 drivers tried GP Midgets, I, for personal reasons, did not race GPMidgets for a season, I was asked if I would like to drive the "Works" P600. They were good fun, and had they been allowed to develop, they could have been successful. I think they were around for three and a half seasons until the Speedway second half event which I have already mentioned, at which point the builder of these cars threw the towel in. That, as they say, was that. The end.
