Thanks John. I was about to try that, but when I open up a new thread, it looks exactly the same as a normal (not quick reply) reply box. There is no panel that offers CHOOSE FILE. The space below SUBJECT is taken up with 'Message Icon' Standard, etc, etc.
I'm wondering if you get a different panel/view because you're an Administrator perhaps?

Yes that's all I get when I open up on this thread as well.

I have sent a message to the proboards administrator to try and get this sorted out. I do get the CHOOSE FILE option. Do any other members also get this - or not. Please let me know. It was, according to proboards, set up as far back as August 6 this year (that's an item I read on their admin blog).

I'm on one of the regular visits and I don't have any CHOOSE FILE option either. It must be something just for the admin people on here to enjoy. Hope it gets sorted out.

Please see my message ADMIN ERROR. Hopefully by now ALL our files except those in the Locked Chapters for the two 'books on line' should allow the uploading of photos from those on members systems.
If you spot a section that does not carry a CHOOSE FILE message, please let me know. It is quite simple for admin to adjust.
admin, MIDGET CAR PANORAMA.

Thanks for sorting that John - nice one. Managed to get the New Brighton pic up there to my satisfaction now, everything works fine.

I tried to send a photo and it was apparently so large the system turned it down. How can I make a photo smaller so that I can put it on here. It shows Spike Rhiando at Crystal Palace in 1934 in a car called 'The Duck' (I think that's the name anyway).

Toby, this subject has come up before, when John and I were discussing/posting pics from this year's GP Midget world championship. Although it's in that thread, John did ask the same question as you and I'll reproduce my reply:
Well, what I did may not help you. How you do it probably depends on the program you use for working with pictures. If this is, say, Windows Picture & Fax Viewer, I have no idea how you get that to downsize things. I use Kodak Easyshare (which is often anything but easy to use) simply because it came with my camera. As part of its regular editing, it routinely asks you if you want to save the edited photo as same size, 75%, 50% or 25%, plus there are other options like 'Best For Web', which in practice mostly turns out to be the 25% (or quarter size) option. But unless you have Easyshare, I guess that won't help.
Surely there's some member cleverer than me who can help John out with this - it will be to all our advantage, 'cos his pix are bound to be interesting!
Similarly Toby, I'm already itching to see your photo - anything to do with Spike is revered round here!

Just a thought Toby. I know you may not want to do this, but if all else fails you could send me the pic and I'll downsize it for you and either post it, or send it back to you smaller, so you can. Just PM me if you want to do it that way.

Hiya, Would like to post some photos occasionally but understand very little of the above - is there an easier way yet? Hi Ez:: Just try a test using this format. It's much easier than it looks. Try a test photo - there is a reply box in here for that. SEE ADMIN TESTING THREAD. Good luck!(1) Open up a new thread box. (2) In the space below the SUBJECT there is another panel that says CHOOSE FILE. Click the reference in here to add the reference of the jpg you are about post. (3) Then go to ADD TAGS. Go to the bottom line, move four spaces along and click. It should bring down a double reference img. In between these two img references again exactly enter place the same jpg reference that is carried in CHOOSE FILE. (4) Now go to POST REPLY and send your message. That should bring up the photo on the site.

I have found it to be even easier than that. At the bottom of any page of this forum - including the one this response appears on - there is a box marked Quick Reply. But just above that is a long blue box which says, at the right hand side, "reply, send topic to friend, print". If you click on "reply", it will bring up another box which allows many more possibilities than Quick Reply. The second line of this box is entitled "Attachment" and has another little box alongside called " Browse". If you click that, it will send your PC looking at your most heavily used picture files - on my lap top it always goes directly to a file called 'collecting' which contains all sorts of purely electronic memorabilia ancient and modern.
Obviously, where 'Browse' takes you will depend on you and your PC, but it is easy enough to direct it. A double click on the file you want to attach will put the file name in the Attachment box, and Bob's your uncle. It's seriously quick and easy once you get the hang of it. Then you just add whatever you want to say about the picture in the box further down entitled Message, and click Post Reply at the very bottom. Job done.
Just a couple of warnings. On my laptop at any rate, if you think you'd like to see how your entire post will look and you click on Preview, it will not only NOT show you your post with the attachment, when you go back to post it properly your attachment will have vanished and you have to insert it again. I've learnt not to do that. If you don't like what you end up with, it's simple to go back and use the "modify" facility.
The second warning is to check the size of your attachment before you try to attach it. The system will reject any file bigger than 1,024 KB. Similarly, if when you check the file it is stated to be 1 MB or greater, that too is too big. Furthermore, you don't usually want to post any picture larger than about 500 KB, as viewers will end up having to chase all over their screens to view the cinema poster you've put up there!
If you want to post some printed material that is likely to feature small or difficult to read print, I always post that as big as I can get it so people have some hope of reading it - I did that with the Cheffins catalogue. In that case, having to move about all over the screen to read it is less annoying than not being able to read it at all.
Hope all that helps.

FOR NEW MEMBERS:::ANYTHING WRONG PLEASE LET ME KNOW:: :::::::
Try this:
(1) Open up a new thread box. (2) In the space below the SUBJECT there is another panel that says CHOOSE FILE. Click the reference in here to add the reference of the jpg you are about post. (3) Then go to ADD TAGS. Go to the bottom line, move four spaces along and click. It should bring down a double reference url. In between these two url references again exactly enter place the same jpg reference that is carried in CHOOSE FILE. (4) Now go to POST REPLY and send your message. That should bring up the photo on the site.
This seems to work okay for me. administrator, Midget Car Panorama.

As I am off work until after Christmas I have been recapping Posts on site. I wondered why this was back again and out of interest I tried it but failed to get up a photo. Is this basic posting information correct? Or is there a problem at the moment with the site server thats a problem? Can someone else please try a routine check and comeback to us...perhaps the moderator can have a go!

I have just been on to proboards support team to report this problem. It would appear that other sites are also affected. This means the problem is general to the proboards server rather than this site. Hopefully, it will be remedied in a few hours time. Admin, Midget Car Panorama.
