I've just followed the link to Argentina and also seen it in World of Midgets on the site. It certainly looks to be a major motor sport there. Why have we heard so little about it I wonder? And do they really get 100 cars for some meetings? If so, that shows fantastic interest for the sport in South America.

I am trying to ascertain if there is an Argentine National championship so as to take the winners over on to that section of the site. I believe there might be two area championships which are run by rival groups.

Midget car racing took place in Argentina in the late thirties, and I know of at least one American driver who raced there in 37 or 38.
One story that was told to me by Walter Mackereths daughter, Moira, was that in Sept 38 Walter was on board a ship heading for Argentina. When war was declared the ship was ordered to return to England.
I have tried several times to veryfy this but without success.

I always understood that in 1939 Walter Mackereth, Frank Chiswell and Charlie Pashley were supposed to go to Australia for a tour called off because of the outbreak of war against Germany on September 3 that year.

From the programmes notes I have read from 1939 I aways thought that a trip down under was on the cards, but when I spoke to Moira she was adament that Walter was on his way to South America! She may of course be wrong as she was only a small child at the time. One day someone might have the patients to look at all the passenger lists heading for Argentina, then again he could get there a lot cheaper if he went by Cargo Ship, in which case no lists.

I heard from an uncle of mine that Belle Vue were planning a tour to the USA in 1939, he may have mixed up USA and South America, and assumed it was B.V. organizing it. Apparently cancelled before WW2 broke out.
