When the American team was in London in 1948, British drivers Frank Chsiwell and Walter Mackereth put in match race challenges but were turned down. This is said to be because th Yanks who had rearwheel drive cars knew tey would have no chance against the four wheeldrive Skirrows used by the British drivers.

Yes, the British-built Skirrows (built by Harry Skirrow) were awesome. They ran with 996cc JAP engines. First prototype came out in 1936, they dominated British speedway up to 1939, then again from 1947 until the late 1950s.
