It appears to have been publicised well before the event although I cannot find any more than a preview in the Daily Mirror by Frank McGhee (10 April 1952)
MIDGET car racing drivers are tired of always being called the "additional attraction." They want to start a league of their own, and at Brough Park, Newcastle, on Easter Monday evening, an England v. Scotland midget car "Test" match will be the first step. Promoter of the meeting is Mr. James Smith, who controlled speedway in Middlesbrough and Newcastle "I sent invitations to the promoters and managers of all the speedway clubs which have collapsed since the war, and I am hoping to convince them that there is a real future for this sport," he told me. "If we do manage to get a league going, Newcastle will have a start over anyone else, for I intend to sign up the best of the drivers if my Easter Monday meeting gets a good reception."
