A sensational meeting for the club today at Hednesford, the weather was great and the racing was clean & close. Congratulations to the top 3 in the British Championship (1st #31 Jonathan Pooley, 2nd #32 Daniel Pooley & 3rd #40 Steve Sutch) you guys fought hard till the end with both Pooley’s only making the pass on Steve Sutch on the very last lap! The top 3 were separated by only 0.6 secs when they took the checkered flag! It was unfortunate for Steve Sutch who has now narrowly missed out on becoming British Champion for the second year in a row, but it was still a great entertaining drive right down to the wire and a thoroughly deserved podium place.
Also well done once again to #37 Tony Smith for taking another impressive Heat win, it’s great to see Tony finally having some luck with the car. Well done also to #33 Gordon Pooley after a long week of hard work rebuilding & altering his car he finally hit the sweet spot and took the win in Heat 2.
#595 Jamie Young had a bad start to the day with differential troubles but found his footing by race 3 finishing in an impressive 2nd place after starting all the way back at red grade. Jamie en-route to his 2nd place finish passed his father #59 Steve Young who was driving the “Cheetah Peugeot” justifying the nickname of Jamie’s new car “The Cheetah Beater”. #25 Alex Butcher once again had a strong showing with a good set of results and strong pace throughout the meeting. #4 Michael Sutch was also getting to grips with his car leading for several laps in the 2 heats.
Today also marked the first meeting for newcomer to the club #888 Andy Phillips who has turned out an exceptionally smart car and is an experienced driver in the Incarods formula. Andy very quickly picked up the pace and the unique driving characteristics of a rear engined Midget and by the end of the meeting after fixing a sticking throttle was setting the same lap times as several of the other drivers.
All in all today was a really positive meeting with a good turnout of cars and even better racing, see you all at Eastbourne on the 28th May.
