I think you should stick with what you have John! The article can be read one of two ways - that Val first worked with Skirrow AND went to Rotterdam three years before the article or that he joined Skirrow three years before the article and the Rotterdam event was just at some point after that (which I reckon is the case). Nice to see the event at least referred to in print though and there are several adverts in regional newspapers in 1938 promoting Mackereth as European Champion too.

This European Championship meeting took place at Woudenstein dirt track, nr Rotterdam on 20.09.1936.It was an attempt to introduce midget car racing into The Netherlands. It consisted of 12 3 car 4 lap races... the winner being the one with the highest heats point total. Attached are the results

Saturday 22 June 1935, European Open Championship (Norwood News) WON BY INCHES Jean Reville (France) won the European open championship at the Crystal Palace midget car speedway on Saturday, but he won only by inches. After leading by nearly half a lap, his engine failed when within fifty yards of the winning post, and Ells White (England) overtook him a second too late. Reville passing the line a fraction ahead of his rival. The Midget Car Speedway Association trophy was presented to the winner and a smaller cup was awarded to the runner-up.
