In 1956 Birmingham and England speedway rider Ron Mountford built this midget car, believed to be fitted with a 500cc JAP engine, which he took when he toured the Republic in the 1956-57 season. If Ron Mountford was building and developing midget cars of this standard in 1956 I am surprised that as a formula they never evolved further yet IMO those awful looking Parker Midgets survived for so many years. What happened to Mountford's venture - was there only the one prototype. And why did he build it in the UK then test it in South Africa or was it special commission from there? Here's a photo of a 1950s Parker Midget - just compare it with the Ron Mountford midget as seen in the previous post.Attachments:
