Second meeting of the year happened at Grimley in Worcestershire on Sunday, March 30. There was a photo of the results board on the Midgets facebook page which had numbers only. From that I gather that all three races were won by front engine cars - Peter Dorrell taking the opening heat and then Tony Smith winning the other heat and the final. Tony's car is a 1970s Dastle with Fireball bodywork.

Three different winners up at Buxton on Sunday. Reigning club champion Jonathan Pooley (Scorpian) won the opening race with Cliff Bunn taking race two in his front engine "Firehawk". Cliff is building another front engine car at present by the way. The third race, for the Simon Pashley Trophy, was won by Dave Bonser in his rear engine Scorpian. The only other front engine car was Tony Smith who sadly broke a drive shaft before things got underway - despite help from the paddock he was not able to get out. Some good news for front engine followers is that Carl Checkley is coming back to the club racing a mk18 Dastle.

A quick update to my previous post about Buxton. I did not realise that Gordon Pooley was back racing a front engine car as well until I saw the photos from the meeting - it looks like Andrew Hinch's old P&K. Good to see that car out again and well done to the Pooley family for keeping the faith with the front engine cars as well as being the most prolific rear engine builders too.

From my history site... "The British Championship is the second oldest of the formula's events dating back to 1971 when Mick Bonner won the title at White City. The Championship does however have the distinction of having been run twice in 1977 - once under the guise of 'Speedcars' at Newton Abbot! That probably makes up for there not being an event in 1974 - it was scheduled for November at Ipswich as an all Midget meeting but was cancelled. From the data I have seen I think it is most likely that the title was not contested in the club's first years, 1975 / 1976 as the championship was a Spedeworth instigation not originally carried through at the Club's set up as an indepedent organisation."
