Not midgets I realise but possibly still of interest to our members. This is some highly lethal looking board track racing (never let it be said these blokes didn't race close!) at Coney Island NY, and supposedly features the first ever motorsports crash caught on film. Whether that's true or not, this is well worth seeing. Watch out for Louis Chevrolet trying to steer his blazing mount to safety while virtually standing up, presumably because the flames were coming into the cockpit. Can't think why so many people got killed playing this game...

Enjoyed the Coney Island youtube item a lot. Great stuff - were these cars the forerunners of sprint cars.

You're asking a question to which there is only a complicated answer fastfire! The evolution of Champ Cars, Indy Cars, Sprints, 'Big Cars', Silver Crown cars, Midgets etc. is not a straightforward thing and has no real linear timeline as far as I'm aware. Or, if there is, you'd need somebody more expert than me to answer you. For instance, I only found out the other day (from our good friend Terry Wright) that Midgets actually grew out of a type of kiddie car racing with what almost amounted to pedal cars equipped with small motorcycle engines!
