In the early days of my research for the history articles on this forum, I received much information from the late David Gandhi. That was some 20 years ago originally. Mr Gandhi has long passed away. I have noticed in my pdf of Derek Bridgett's new book on Belle Vue midget car racing that Mr Gandhi provided data, photos and information for the book. I lost contact with Mr Gandhi sometime in the early 1990s (if not earlier), I would be interested to learn of his involvement with midget car racing and any other information regarding him if that is possible. It would be a tribute to his so far largely unrecognised work regarding research into the origins of midget car racing in the UK.

In his latest book "Midget Car Racing: Belle Vue 1934-39" author Derek Bridgett pays this tribute to the late David Gandhi: "This book is dedicated to the late Dave Gandhi. In the late thirties, as a precocious teenager, he attended every Midget Car meeting that took place at Belle Vue speedway; he even managed to ingratiate himself with the management and gain admittance to all those areas that the general public were not allowed to enter. His many anecdotes and stories gave a unique insight into the ‘behind the scenes’ activity of the track."

I was lucky enough to visit David Gandhi sometime around 2000/01 and spent a very pleasant day going through his midget racing memorabilia with this true enthusiast - he was most interested in both my old cars plus the current Westfield I was racing at the time. His house was packed to the rafters with other motoring literature and I was sad when I heard he had passed away. I never saw the contents listed in any auction but hope that in particular the midget related items have been saved

I found the comments about the late midget car historian David Gandhi most interesting and would like to learn more about his involvement with our favourite motor sport formula please. Did he write any articles, leaflets or even a book on the sport? Thank you.

This is a photo of Dave Gandhi taken by Derek Bridgett who writes: Find attached a photo I took of Dave Gandhi at his home in Arnside in May 2003. Unfortunatly this was the last time I saw him, he passed away at Westmorland General Hospital Kendal on Sat 18th October that year. I used to visit him every May when I was on my way home after attending the British Hill Climb Championship at nearby Barbon Manor.Attachments:

The sad thing is indeed the passing of motorsport historians like Dave Gandhi There cannot sadly be many historians with memories of the really old pioneer days of midget car racing now with us. With the passage of the years events as recent as the 1970s are now regarded as a historical period for the forums. I saw the Skirrowa in action in the 1950s, I wonder if any other members of this forum ever saw them in track action?
