I am certain that some midget car racing took place at the Holbeach track betwen 1946 and 1948. Apart from that hazy comment I have no other info but believe that Billy Murden, Frank Chiswell, Walter Mackereth and speedway rider Wilf Plant were involved in the action. Some of the midget races may have been part of a mixed programme with speedway bikes also in action. I think that Plant was also probably the promoter?

Exactly between, Baldeagle - 1947 in fact.
Here is a programme to prove it happened at least once, on August 24th 1947. The prog advertises a further meeting on September 21st but I have no idea if that took place and have never seen another midget car programme from Bell End Speedway, Holbeach. I've already done all the crude jokes about the name of the track, just to save anyone the trouble! Seriously though, I'm told it was so called because it was the furthest away from the town that you could still hear the church bells apparently. Probably not on race days though....

Can't find any results for the meeting at Holbeach but the local papers did carry advertising for the meeting on 21st September that year but it looks like it was a bike meeting Attachments:

This reply is off-topic so far as midget cars at Bell End aka Holbeach are concerned, it but it gives some credence to how long the venue ran motorsport (mainly speedway bikes). www.speedwayresearcher.org.uk/bellend.html
