The Derek Kisby Memorial Trophy for Grand Prix midgets is at Yarmouth on next Sunday, September 1. Who was Derek Kisby and when and why was a trophy in his honour designated? Is there a list of previous winners available please?

I was just browsing when I saw the query about Derek Kisby. A search on good old google brought this reference and a photo of the Derek Kisby Memorial Trophy. It would appear that he was active as a GPMC driver in the 1970s, possibly his son Paul later raced in the formula?
I read this on Google: "Derek Kisby died of cancer in the prime of his career as a successful Midget Grand Prix driver. Since 1977 Derek Kisby's family have presented the Derek Kisby Memorial Trophy to the winner of a Midget race at the Spedeworth Track, Great Yarmouth."

Steve Young was injured when his car hit the fence in the first race of this meeting. We hope to have an update on Steve eventually. From what I can gather Steve is having (or will have had) an operation on his foot. It seems the throttle stuck open on the car and it hit one of the unforgiving fence posts - Yarmouth is the last of the old type post and wire tracks that the Midgets currently race on. Such incidents are thankfully few and far between these days but it is always something that needs to be taken very seriously. Given that lap records have come down again this season it is probably time for the club to consider if they should be racing on this type of track these days. No one wants to cut the potential number of tracks they race on but this is a time when some health and saftey considerations makes sense. I am sure all the readers of the Panorama will join me in wishing Steve a speedy recovery.
