As I said earlier, if we decide to press ahead with this and not simply find another forum host, I make the cost to be about £25 a year and the regular users should all chip in - it's only going to be £5 each if only five of us volunteer. You can count me in if that's the way we decide to go. Ten donors will make it £2.50 each and I should think any more than that will be just too fiddly to collect anyway.

I have had another look at this offer: it would appear that $US3 a month is the lowest grade on offer by Proboards. There are more expensive deals available!!!

I think I am right that 10Gig is 10,240Meg so that's a lot of photos at 1Meg max and I'll put my hand up for 5 quid or 5 dollars or whatever. I have a 5 pound note right here.

Just out of interest, I also moderate the oldtimespeedway site - a Yahoo! enterprise. So far, there are more than 4,000 photos in various albums on that site. No sign of a charge yet and the latest bandwith message reads:
used so far 2% of 100GB
which means a lot more free photo albums can be created there by its members without the forum imposing any charge!!

I suppose this couldn't be replaced by a facebook page similar to that for the American Big Cars site now on facebook that was brought up yesterday?
The snag is I suppose everyone who's a member on here would also need a facebook account - or am I wrong about that?

The snag is I suppose everyone who's a member on here would also need a facebook account - or am I wrong about that? My grand-daughter tells me that you can visit facebook sites as a non-member but need to be registered if you want to put stuff up on there? I have had another look at the American Big Cars page on facebook and it does set a very high standard to follow but obviously well worth all the effort that is going into it.

On the main Big American cars site there is a further page that may indicate what can be done in regard to photos on there? Any further views on the suggestion for a facebook link to this site?

Important message: I am concerned that the facebook link to Big American Race Cars also carries a link to my own facebook address WHICH I NEVER USE. I understand that this is because on the old v4 site the log-in used to be linked by Proboards to enable Midget Car Panorama members to enter the site via facebook (I don't know how that works???). However, I would like to clarify that I am in no way involved with the Big American Cars facebook site - which is, as has been mentioned on MCP, an excellent venture. Please do not send me facebook messages in regard to Big American Race Cars. Admin (aka John Hyam), Midget Car Panorama.

This is an explanation on the USA's Racing History site in regard to how this facebook link can be viewed and certain interesting aspects in regard to it. I thought it most informative? ::::::: --- In RacingHistory@yahoogroups.com, Cliffmanley <cliffmanley@...> wrote: When you upload photos to Facebook you can choose who can view them. I am looking at some of this for another interest I follow. Therer is a Facebook JAP Engines group. It is 'public' that is anyone with a Facebook account can view it. It could be restricted to specific people. It works ok but does not have threads or topics. If someone makes a comment then that conversation comes to the top of the page. Some things disappear down the page very quickly so it is more or less impnossible to find anything other than recent conversations. It depends a lot on photos for its interest and works best with short comments.
An alternative I am looking at is 'wikis' which is like a forum that you set up yourself using open source software. I am thinking of using it for an email discussion with one other person that is getting so complex it's needs organisation. Don't know if it will do for MCP but will let you know.

T I see the problems in regard to a message stack for use of facebook but is there any reason why it should not be used simply for photos. If I have followed the Big Cars site it is possible to create albums on there. I also did a google for the wikis you suggest and initially to me it appears somewhat complicated? But I keep an open mind and look forward to your eventual update about wikis.

I have just tried to enlarge a photo posted on here about two years ago and it was refused because too much attachment has been reached. I can understand the message but don't like it in regard to placing new photos but this is just ridiculous. Especially when the Proboards people rely on site members to not only read the forum but to also take notice of their adverts.

T Maybe facebook is useless for our needs in regard to storing messages but on facebook you can have it open to everyone and use it to create photo albums which might mean this group can get round the problems that have arisen in regard to putting new pics up for other people's viewing? You can scroll down the page continually from what I can see of the Big Cars USA facebook page.
