If this link to oldtimespeedway works it brings up the 1935 Speedway Mirror which has a readers letter about the first meeting on page 10 of 12 and a report of the match on page 12. www.box.com/s/m9qqjws57dxnq9gnlgaa/1/769159022/7165842488/1I must confess that from the report I found it difficult to differentiate the two team line-ups?

I had problems getting into the magazine but then saw a tiny 1935 date at the very top on the left and clicked this and as the lady fan dancer said 'all was revealed'. It was a poor report about the meeting which took place at Lea Bridge in East London and didn't identify very much apart from the result but without a scoreline. But names without knowing what teams they were in were L St Nair and Billy Murden who were named to drive but seemingly from what I read didn't. The only other driver's full name was Adolf Pabst. There were some surnames Lowe, Gillow and Reville (and we all know? who that was - 'Mr Gnat' himself Jean Reville). It would be nice to know more about the second meeting in this two match series which was also at Lea Bridge just over a week later and I am sure that will eventually surface - after all we have waited 78 years for the first match happenings to surface.

As the name of Jean Reville is mentioned in regard to these matches I browsed through the feature
JEAN REVILLE - MIDGET MAN OF MYSTERY BY DAVID HAUNTON
but there's nothing about these meetings.

No need to wait (too long) for details of the June 10th '35 meeting weewillie. I have a completely filled in - if very tatty and threadbare - prog for this one. If (when!) we ever get back to being able to post pix, remind me and I'll scan it for you and post it here.

OK, here are the scans I promised of that '35 Lea Bridge prog. Sorry it's so tatty (I have looked after it most carefully but previous owners obviously didn't) but it does have as full a set of results as you are likely to get.

Spot on - JT Raynes was Jimmy Raynes, Ells White was Les White. Two great pre-war drivers. They need more recognition on this forum IMO. Too much on here about Spike Rhiando and Jean Reville. There were other top class drivers around and Jimmy and Les were certainly among them, as were Walter Mackereth and Frank Chiswell for others.
