You know, we really need to do what the 'tar' guys have done and that is schedule every meeting, and every entrant and cars, and results so that there is a definitive reference, and publish it in some form or other. Certainly I would be interested in working on this - are others interested in cooperating?
Could we start by scheduling who has what programmes and/or results 193? to 1939?.
New topic Boss?

I'd certainly be up for that. I don't have a huge load of progs (I wish!) and those I have got, don't all have results in. But between a few of us we could surely make a start.

Ditto, but I only have copies of Ivan Dutton's stuff plus Les White's and Bud Stanley's - that is little of my own. But it all helps. I think the key information - Date/venue/meeting name/promoter/drivers/resources to hand ... could be offered up via the forum and one or more of us compile it into a database of some kind which would be common property/shared copyright or whatever. We could do it year by year calling for information starting ... when? In due course the results could be published on the forum and even a few copies printed. I think it just needs a few people to put their hand up to cooperate via the forum and we could have a 'go'. Doubtless there are Web techniques that could be applied but its probably best to keep it simple. I'll make a few enquiries as to what happens in other spheres and maybe our dear leader could consider if and how we could launch the idea via the forum?

As most of you know I don't have a computer at home and rely on the public library so I can't post as much info as I would like. Also most of my notes are hand written!!!!!
If you can all put up with my hand writing I'll post all the results and fixtures I have re Midget Car racing from 34 to 40.
Someone out there should be able to neaten them up and post them properly

This research area started with something of a flurry but for weeks now its all doldrums and seems to have gone the way that trying to start a UK Hall of Fame went a couple of years back.

Is it planned to make further input to this Data Research section that is tending to dominate the site without anything happening?

Well, I was going to, but I haven't, and I am not sure when I will, one reason being because I have recently part-inherited (from Graham Howard) a very large motorsport archive (not speedway) that will take years to sort. out.
That said I do feel there are far too many boards/sub/boards on the forum with too few threads/posts and maybe it could all be radically simplified.

I agree there are too many underused boards. I don't think the Data Boards are going to go anywhere and should top the list to start the site looking smaller and neater. I also think the following could also be taken down TQ Midgets, Sprint Cars and Hall of Fame. That's just for starters. When that's done we can have a further analyse of what's still here. Any views from other members?

There is food for thought about what previous Posters say in regard to the site. I would, however, before considering any action like to see further thoughts from forum members about this before taking any - and what might prove hasty - action in removing certain boards.

I would, however, before considering any action like to see further thoughts from forum members about this before taking any - and what might prove hasty - action in removing certain boards. I have had a good look at the boards on here and they are all appear okay as far as I am concerned. If it's not broken then don't mend it. Leave it all well alone. There were enough problems on here when we were subjected to a pending upgrade at the beginning of the year. Howver, the sad thing is that increasingly the site has become underused and things like the lively debates we enjoyed in the early days three or four years ago have become exhausted...or are we being overtaken by Facebook and similar outlets. I hope not. Maybe the lack of activity is understandable because really there has not been a lot of action historically in the UK regarding midget car racing, a few pre-war seasons then Dave Hughes era of the early 1950s. Topics from those times have been well served on here. Now, apart from the present GP Midget Car Club, we in the UK have no race action. But GPM drivers never seem to have any comments to make on here and I would hazard a guess that there's not one active GP driver who is a site member? But, to put it rather harshly - don't castrate the site. Leave it alone. I think that in time it will regenerate itself because there's so much good stuff already placed on here. This gives it a very strong foundation and the site it gets good coverage for outside researchers as a Google search for midget car racing will reveal. Don't just key in Midget Car Racing but also the subject like say Harry Skirrow or Elto Midget Cars. You could, as I was, be surprised at the amount of stuff that comes up.

I totally agree with everything you say Baldeagle. I don't believe there is any necessity to remove any boards, under-used or not. The Research/Data ones will be added to from time to time no doubt. I know that Terry has other things to worry about now that have prevented him adding to the stats as he originally planned, and he isn't alone; I have other info to post but not unlimited amounts of time to do it just now. And, as you say, there's so much good stuff already placed on here, I'm happy if things are left alone. I also agree that over time things will regenerate, particularly as there is no doubt that all the hassle of the ProBoards 'switchover' definitely knocked both our active membership and the participation of same.

A small problem is that when you come in the front door you don't get the recent stuff. You get the basic structure which is largely dormant. I try to come in via recent posts which is how other forums operate. But not this one.
