... Whatever. That faint outline looks like just what I was expecting to find. Off topic maybe, but this may be of interest. maps.google.com.au/maps?q=kings+oak+High+Beech+Road,+Loughton,+UK&hl=en&ll=51.663765,0.041167&spn=0.002143,0.004715&sll=51.646823,0.051697&sspn=0.008575,0.018861&t=h&hq=kings+oak&hnear=High+Beech+Rd,+Loughton,+Essex,+United+Kingdom&z=18 Is the oval shaped lighter line of trees behind the Kings Oak Hotel at High Beech in Epping Forest the dirt track of some fame? (Think you have to cut and paste the link above into your browser.)

There was Skirrow midget car action at High Beech in 1938.

Not off-topic at all Terry. As John says, Skirrows certainly ran there, even if only in demonstration mode. I don't however, think that the track followed the line of those lighter coloured trees, although I expect they do encompass the site. I know the Epping Forest Visitor Centre is on the site of the track, but having been there and compared photos and so on, I believe the track would have been vertically (north-south) in the middle of the "tree oval" rather than almost horizontally, east-west. I certainly don't mind being corrected by someone who knows for sure though!

I wonder what has caused the lighter 'line' of trees?

I think they just show us the outermost extent of the track site Terry, i.e. including spectator areas etc.
