Yourself and kiwikid have neatly bounced this back for me to solve! At the moment I have no idea but I'm welcome to suggestions.

How about: advertise the fact on the main site - perhaps with a new topic box - that we are conducting a poll. Also, send all members an individual e-mail to the effect. Get everybody to e-mail you directly John, with their nominations - as many or as few as they like. Have a cut-off date for when nominations must be in by. It doesn't have to be a short time frame, after all, this has been about a year or more in the gestation now, so giving people until (say) the last day of August to put their two pennyworth in won't do any harm. Then, add up all the nominations and the names which are on everybody's list (or most) automatically go into the HoF. You could either just take the top 25, or maybe better, as I think somebody has already suggested, perhaps nominations should be in different catagories by era. Pre-war, post war up to 1970, 1970 to the present day might work.
John, if you feel it shouldn't be just up to you who should be included and who shouldn't (although, strictly speaking, you would just be collating the votes) you could nominate a couple of other 'judges' if you wanted.
OK, you can shoot my ideas down in flames now! Seriously though, if there's any obvious holes in my thinking, feel free to say so now!
One observation though; it may just be a bit of an empty gesture to have the HoF purely as a cyberspace thing, without having an actual building somewhere for inductions of either founding members still living, or new inductees to come later. But I daresay somewhere could be found if it's deemed necessary.

I's like to see a few more ideas in a similar vein under the current topic, then we (not 'I') could move on from there - maybe?

IS THERE ANYTHING IN THIS NEW ZEALAND HALL OF FAME WORTH FOLLOWING UP?
New Zealand Speedway Hall of Fame. Back to Home page.
Many thanks to Reece and Marcel Facoory for help with this page. The Bruce Drinkrow Memorial Speedway Hall of Fame was formed as an Incorporated Society of New Zealand in 2003. It has a Constitution and consists of 15 Executive members. The driving force behind it has been Reece Facoory, who after a two year effort to set up rules and constitution finally made it all happen. The main sponsor for the hall is the Drinkrow family of Auckland. The purpose of the NZ Hall of Fame is to recognise people, whether they be competitors, officials, race car owners, club stalwarts, people who may have won World Championships, to people who have given their life time of service to our sport at club level. Each year nominations are sought from Clubs and Individuals from all over New Zealand (anyone can make a nomination) From the 15 Executive members, five members each year are selected to be the judging panel. The five judges do not know who the other Judges on the panel are, thus preventing block voting. The nominees are judged on these categories: —Achievement in the Sport —Contribution to better the Sport —Length of service / continued involvement in the sport —Acted as an ambassador to the Sport

I daresay it works for them but it sounds 'orribly complicated - do we need anything that involved?

A MESSAGE RECEIVED VIA E-MAIL FROM ROD PASHLEY::: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
John, This sounds quite workable, not sure about the number of "Executive members", probably half that would do us, as long as its an odd number voting. It would need to be taken off this forum, but "staffed" by forum members. Possibly you could "invite" nominations from outside the forum (MGCP, UKMidgets members, or such), but I wouldn't think it would be worth the effort, most of the people interested either are, or will become, members of this forum. If you like, I could have a word with Ben to investigate the possibility of a separate dedicated website attached to the forum in some way. Personally, I feel that it will not be enough just to have a list of names as inductees, but could do with a web page devoted to each inductee, nothing special, just a few lines about them, and a couple of photos. It would be nice to have it within the forum, but I suspect it wont be possible. I do like the idea of rotating the "voting" members being rotated, because people would perhaps all get a chance to take part.

I take it the UK Hall of Fame has been put out to graze in the pasture at the moment? But I concede it's rather tricky to establish with any credibility for the UK. Perhaps we should start by looking at the pre-1939 seasons, find a few different classifications - driver, mechanic-car builder, promoter? How's that for starters?

I'm surprised that admin didn't come back on his very worthy thoughts!

Here's my top five candidate nominations for the years 1934-39.
(1) Bill Reynolds (2) Walter Mackereth (3) Spike Rhiando (4) Frank Chiswell (5) Charlie Pashley
Perhaps if others could send their top five nominations for the same era we could eventually organise some sort of voting poll n the site. We've been waffling away for years about this and it's time we got our fingers out of our carburettors!

Bill Reynolds in the list is a bit of a red herring for me because if this list is confined to Britain it should be on what was achieved in this country and not abroad where Bill's undoubted successes were so I would not put him on the assumption its just for UK racing. I see this as mine 1=Walter Mackereth 2=Spike Rhiando 3=Jean Reville 4=Les White 5=Skid Martin
